To this end, we build our proposals/programmes based on community values and aspirations; formulate comprehensive programmes for development. Both at micro and macro levels, assist in projects that focus on the integral development of each person aimed at building vocations.

The Salesians have been in Kenya for  around 30 years, and as a local organization, are committed to serving the needs of the at-risk and marginalized in Kenya for years to come.  In East Africa, the Salesians will continue to expand their association with other Government  departments, private sector businesses, NGO’s and the local community that actively supports our initiatives.  The Salesians train at-risk populations with skills that meet local market needs and coordinate with employers to ensure the gainful employment of students as they complete their training programs.

In 1996, with the assistance of DMOS – COMIDE of Belgium , the Project Office was founded. In 1999, the Project Office received its Charter from the Provincial Council as a semi autonomous institution and changed its name to ‘Development Office’.

In the early part of 2005, in a meeting organized at the head quarters of SDB by the Mission, Youth Pastoral & Finance department, and attended by over 159 delegates comprising of Directors of D.O’s, Provincial Economers and delegates of Youth Pastoral department; its mandate was broadened to include responsibility for the planning of strategic actions within the province, hence prompting a change of name to Planning and Development Office. It was also to bring synergy between different departments engaged in various Apostolates and facilitate the means to achieve it.

Initially, the Planning and Development Office offered its services only to the Salesian communities but later expanded its services to include other religious institutions.
