SPONSORSHIP PROJECT DEPARTMENT

As a silver jubilee memorial of our province, through the generosity of Machar Foundation in USA, we are privileged to have received a considerable sum which helps us to run this project in the province.

Through this project we seek to assist the financially poorer young people of our institutions to gain access to education. Besides the above mentioned fund, we also receive sponsorship from Missionesalesianas of Madrid – Spain (secondary schools), Kindermissionswerk of Aachen – Germany (primary schools), Don Bosco Mission Procure, Turin – Italy (technical schools) and some friends who would like to sponsor students personally.

The Salesian communities of the province identify needy students and propose them to the office for sponsorship. The office approves them and acts as a link between the communities and the sponsoring agency. It collects reports, submits them to the sponsoring agency, receives and makes payments and keeps records connected with the sponsorship and follow up the whole process.

At present in the province a community that has a secondary school proposes 15 students per year and the community that has a vocational training centre proposes 20 students per year. Other communities like parishes or youth centres also present their students. The sponsorship is at present given out for primary, secondary and technical education.

In Kenya, we have students from Bosco Boys, Boys Town, Embu, Upper Hill, Nzaikoni, Kakuma, Utume, Korr and DBYES.
Similarly, in Tanzania our communities of Didia, Dodoma Technical school, Dodoma Salesian Seminary, Mafinga Seminary, Mafinga Parish,  Oysterbay and Upanga have students sponsored through this program.
This year 2009, the sponsorship program is sponsoring a total number of 191students from Kenya and Tanzania communities.

The Sponsorship Desk has been able to achieve its goal of empowering the young marginalized and underprivileged youth through education. This has been made possible through the kind donations from our donors and well wishers.
The students that are sponsored through the Planning and Development Office, Sponsorship Desk, perform very well in their schools. (From nursery school, primary school, secondary school and technical institutions).

The Sponsorship Desk is able to monitor their performance and progress by working hand in hand with their respective communities i.e. by collecting the student report forms and forwarding them to the Sponsorship Desk). This enables the Sponsorship Desk to make future considerations for sponsoring the bright students.

After completion of their studies, the students are referred to the Job Placement Desk in the Planning and Development Office, which finds jobs for them. Thus the students become self reliant and are able to support their families from the job incomes they get.
